Energy-Efficient Greenhouse Glazing for Controlled Growing Environments
Multiwall polycarbonate sheets that help optimize daylight, insulation, and long-term greenhouse performance.
A LEXAN™ reference application, shared to show what the material can do. Laxmi Plastopack supplies genuine LEXAN™ grades across India.

Overview
Commercial greenhouses depend on a carefully controlled growing environment to maximize crop quality and productivity. In regions with colder climates, greenhouse glazing plays a critical role in maintaining internal temperatures while allowing sufficient natural daylight to reach the plants.
For this renovation project, LEXAN™ THERMOCLEAR Multiwall Polycarbonate Sheet was selected to modernize the greenhouse structure, helping improve thermal efficiency while creating a more stable growing environment for tropical plants.
The challenge
The existing greenhouse glazing provided limited thermal insulation, resulting in increased heating costs during colder months and making it more difficult to maintain the consistent temperatures required for tropical crops.
The replacement glazing system needed to:
- Improve thermal insulation to reduce energy consumption
- Maximise natural daylight for healthy plant growth
- Maintain a stable internal growing environment
- Resist long-term outdoor weather exposure
- Reduce structural weight while simplifying installation
Achieving the right balance between insulation and light transmission was essential for improving greenhouse efficiency.
The solution
LEXAN™ THERMOCLEAR Multiwall Polycarbonate Sheet was installed as the new greenhouse glazing material.
Its multiwall construction provides improved thermal insulation compared with traditional single-pane glazing while continuing to allow high levels of natural daylight into the growing area. The lightweight panels also simplified installation and reduced the structural load on the greenhouse framework.
Designed for long-term outdoor use, the sheets provide reliable weatherability, making them well suited for commercial horticultural applications.
Why LEXAN™ THERMOCLEAR
- Multiwall construction for improved thermal insulation
- High natural light transmission to support plant growth
- Lightweight panels that simplify handling and installation
- UV-protected surface for long-term outdoor weatherability
- Excellent impact resistance compared with conventional greenhouse glazing
- Suitable for commercial greenhouses, nurseries, and horticultural structures
- Helps improve energy efficiency in climate-controlled growing environments
Results
The renovated greenhouse achieved a more energy-efficient growing environment while continuing to provide the natural daylight required for healthy crop development. The combination of improved insulation, lightweight construction, and long-term durability helped support more efficient greenhouse operation throughout the year.
