Durable Marine Glazing for High-Performance Boats
Lightweight polycarbonate glazing designed for demanding marine environments.
A LEXAN™ reference application, shared to show what the material can do. Laxmi Plastopack supplies genuine LEXAN™ grades across India.

Overview
Marine glazing systems operate in some of the harshest outdoor environments, where constant exposure to saltwater, UV radiation, wind, and abrasion can quickly degrade conventional transparent materials. Boat manufacturers require glazing solutions that maintain optical clarity while delivering long-term durability under challenging operating conditions.
For this application, LEXAN™ EXTRITE Polycarbonate Sheet was selected for marine windshields used on high-performance boats operating in demanding coastal and offshore environments.
The challenge
The windshield material needed to perform reliably in applications where visibility, durability, and weather resistance are critical.
The selected glazing solution had to:
- Maintain excellent optical clarity in outdoor environments
- Resist abrasion from regular marine use and cleaning
- Withstand prolonged exposure to saltwater and UV radiation
- Offer high impact resistance for demanding marine applications
- Enable thermoforming into complex windshield geometries
- Reduce weight compared with traditional glazing materials
Balancing durability with optical performance was essential for ensuring reliable long-term service.
The solution
LEXAN™ EXTRITE Polycarbonate Sheet was selected because it combines excellent optical quality with outstanding impact resistance, weatherability, and abrasion-resistant surface performance.
Its lightweight construction and excellent thermoformability enable manufacturers to produce durable, aerodynamically shaped marine windshields while supporting efficient fabrication and installation.
Designed for demanding outdoor environments, the material provides long-term performance in applications exposed to continuous sunlight, moisture, and salt-laden air.
